Norwood Hall at Missouri University of Science & Technology

Exterior Restoration

challenge

IAA was commissioned to investigate existing exterior conditions, including the masonry and roof, of Norwood Hall. Constructed in 1904, it is one of the founding buildings on the Rolla, MO campus. The four-story structure boasts several masonry chimneys, three balcony roofs, and architectural features characteristic of the era. The intent of IAA's study was to identify problematic areas through a thorough observation of the entire facade and roof, and to offer recommendations for corrective action.

design solution

Following our assessment, it was determined that a complete roof replacement and masonry restoration were required to prevent further moisture infiltration into the building. Potential structural shifting and settling were also investigated and remediated as necessary to ensure the Norwood Hall's integrity and longevity.
