Power Plant Gas Turbine Building at the University of Missouri

New Construction

challenge

When the University of Missouri outgrew the capacity of its existing power plant, they commissioned Sega Corporation and International Architects Atelier to design a building envelope for its new Power Plant Capacity Addition which would integrate architecturally with the existing campus aesthetic.

design solution

For a project of this size and scope, the design process required meticulous coordination with engineers and the University to meet a wide variety of complex, highly-technical, functional demands. IAA worked closely with Sega Corporation’s team, which was responsible for the functional aspects of the power generation equipment, and with University officials, to coordinate the various demands posed by each. The result is a mixture of brick, concrete, and cast stone which harmonizes with its surroundings by incorporating various elements of the original power plant buildings into the overall design.
