Welcome Erin!

Last week IAA added another great member to the team! We are excited to announce that after graduating from the University of Kansas in May, Erin Hylton became our newest Architectural Intern, and has hit the ground running. Between road trips, red lining, and design projects, Erin took a bit of time to let us know a few interesting facts about herself…

Where are you from?

I’m from Leawood, KS, but I was born in Lexington, KY and lived there for eight years… The Derby is and always will be a big deal.

What is your favorite architectural or design trend?

Designing for the senses. When a design carefully considers every potential connection with people I think the space can be very powerful, and have an amazing impact on everyone using the space.

Do you have a favorite building?

One that not many have probably heard of, but many more should! The St. Lawrence Chapel by Avanto Architects in Vantaa, Finland is my current favorite. I was able to visit this building last year and the pictures don’t do it justice. Avanto Architects’ use of natural light and texture really changes how you feel in each space. They were also able to shift the impact of each technique depending on the space you were in within the chapel.

Any hobbies?

I’m a little bit of a walking contradiction, some days I just want to stay home, play board games, and read in my hammock. But give me an hour or two, and I will want to explore and find something new to do and see.
