We’re excited about our designed welcome desk for the Kansas City Museum which was awarded a SIT Furniture Design Award in the “Sit in Front OF” category!
The design of the new welcome desk was inspired by the original marble table which was nestled at the heart of Grand Hall. The original table has two intricately carved winged lion stone bases on each end. The winged lion motif, which is widely regarded as a symbol of strength and power, also echoes transformation of the building itself. Both the motif and the building have transformed throughout time and its use, yet remain a powerful symbol today. Just as the building renovation was a balance of preserving history and upgrading for modernity, the winged lion motif in the new welcome desk is a simplified nod to the past amidst the desk’s sleek, white curving forms and modern amenities.
