We are saddened by the news of our dear friend and longtime mentor, Melvin Proctor, passing away last Friday. Mel was a fantastic and innovative structural engineer who was always eager to seek new ideas to solve structural challenges while maintaining the integrity of the design. He engineered many iconic structures around our City and throughout the region. We were honored and fortunate to know Mel and appreciate all his support and mentoring throughout the years. Mel was a man of integrity and faith, and we will always treasure our fond memories of him and his passion for his profession. We are confident that his love and wisdom will make heaven an even better place, where he has joined the love of his life Ginny. Mel, we will miss you, and you will live in our hearts forever. Our sincere condolences to his beloved children Julie, Terri, Tom, and his grandkids, great grandkids, family, and friends. Our thoughts are with all of you and share in your sadness and grief.
Below is Mel’s drawing from The Roasterie when he helped us erect a flying DC-3 airplane which has become an iconic symbol of our city.
