This summer we’ve had a great time getting to know and working with our interns, Spencer Reed and Calista Gorrell. They’ve contributed a fresh perspective and helpful hand on some exciting projects, and have even proven their worth on the pickleball court. We’re hoping summer slows down just a bit so their time here doesn’t run out too fast. Below, get to know Spencer and Calista for yourself.

C: Olathe, KS
S: St. Louis, MO
School?
C: University of Kansas
S: I currently attend the University of Kansas.
Which design trend or style do you most admire?
C: Minimalism
S: This isn’t architectural, but I love Swiss Style graphic design.
What excites you about the future of architecture and design?
C: How more purposeful and sustainable design will change how people live.
S: The same thing that excites me today – its presence as an alluring stage for our lives to take place on.
What inspires you to create?
C: I’m inspired by simplicity and how the smallest things can create the largest impact.
S: Most of my inspiration comes from the profound impact that the creators I look up to have had on the world.
Any hobbies?
C: Graphic design, being an art history nut, listening to live music, wood turning, photography.
S: I play guitar, snowboard, and study both film and visual effects.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Kansas City?
C: Any and all art museums or galleries! Particularly The Nelson-Atkins and The Haw Contemporary.
S: I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks but I’m sure I’ll have more than one favorite soon enough!
