Meet McKenzie

We’re excited to introduce another new member to our team! McKenzie Liebl comes to IAA after earning her Master’s Degree from the School of Architecture at the University of Kansas. Her passion for functional, detail-oriented design makes McKenzie a true asset to the firm, and we’re looking forward to seeing her impact on future work here. Now, time to get to know her a little better… 

Where are you from?
Born and raised in Lawrence, KS.

School(s)?
Graduated with a Masters from KU Architecture in May of 2016, but I’ve studied architecture for a semester in both Newcastle upon Tyne, England and Paris, France

Which design trend or style do you most admire?
I’m always interested in designs that focus on the user and the functionality of space. I appreciate designs that are clean, minimal, and pay special attention to the details.

Favorite building/space?
My favorite building is constantly changing, but among them is Maison de Verre, a home in Paris that exemplifies functionality for the user, and the Nordic Pavilion by Sverre Fehn. One of my favorite spaces is the Luxembourg Gardens.

What excites you about the future of architecture and design?
I’m excited at the possibilities of architecture and design to continuously develop smarter, more sustainable, and inspiring spaces. I’m also excited about the relationship between technology and design, and how architects will utilize new innovations to ultimately create better spaces for poeple.

What inspires you to create?
Traveling to new cities and exploring new places inspires me to create, but I also find a lot of my inspiration in nature.

Movie: The entire Harry Potter series

Musician: Constantly changing, but all time favorites are Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder

Vacation: Somewhere in the mountains.

Hobbies?
Spending time outdoors, some of my favorite things are camping, hiking and skiing. I love playing soccer, watching movies, reading, and going to concerts.

I have a crazy obsession with Saturday Night Live
