As a catalyst for redevelopment in downtown Kansas City, Kansas we’re excited to share The Merc Co+op / UG Downtown Grocery Store has been announced as a 2021 Kansas City Business Journal Capstone Award winner in the Community impact category.

Opened in the Summer of 2020, IAA designed a new community grocery store for the downtown district of Kansas City, Kansas. The project is a result of a successful collaboration and partnership between IAA, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City Kansas, the Merc Co+op, CBC Real Estate Group, McCownGordon Construction, and the greater community. The Grocery Store is operated by the Merc Co+op which is known for locally sourced foods and being a keystone for community involvement. The 14,000 sf building is located on a significant block in the downtown masterplan of Kansas City, Kansas and is a gateway into the downtown community. The store is a welcome addition to the downtown community not only due to the current lack of food sources available in the area, but as it also will act as a foundation for future downtown development.
